Hey, jimmy! Great to hear from you (excuse me: Bon Journeau!). You get stateside occasionally? Would be great to share a meal with ya. I'm back in Lafayette, La. home of the Cajun nation! 2017 has started with a bang. I'm sure you're keeping up with politics over here (which is why you're still over there!). We have the best politicians money can buy! Give me a holler one day! Texas is longing for their favorite son !
Hey Jim... I'm at work so this'll have to be short....but I want to catch up with you later.
Anyway....Got off active duty in '76 (Ft Lauderdale...remember the USS FORRESTAL). Had 3 years of active reserve to fulfill...but I continued on for 25 with VP94 out of NAS New Orleans. Made it up to E-6...made the board every time...just no one was ranked... But I had a great time....
Married in '77....had two WONDERFUL children (Jaime and Jason) and was divorced in '94. Now have a beautiful grandaughter turning 3 on 12/27.
Holding down one full time job and 2 part time jobs for the time being.....
Oh! I wanted to tell you...I spent 10 years in Texas!---Houston (outskirts). Wasn't bad...I was able to get back to REAL life on a regular basis and get some good food! LOL!
It has been a long time since the Key West days. I sure have a lot of good memories from those days. I just spoke with "Alvis Earl" a couple weeks ago. It is nice that everyone is getting to the point "age" in their life that we are the "old guys' and are looking forward to retirement. Some are already retired or semi-retired by finding something to keep themselves busy. I plan on working to age 60 if they will keep me arond that long. That would give me 42 years in the military so it would be time to hang up the uniform. Hope everything is going well for you and you are enjoying your retirement from the Navy. I sure enjoy hearing from everyone and hope to do a bit of traveling when I retire to visit around the country. I told Alvis to hook me up a 5th wheel plug-in for me and I will stop by and see him when I get to be an "old man". I am still doing well in Kansas but do miss the good old days in the Keys! Take Care and BE SAFE! Marvin T.
Yeah....my sister had become terminally ill...both my parents are in their 80's, both my children live here along with a grandaughter... As much as I liked living other places, family becomes pretty important as WE (I mean I) age.
Jerry Foxworth and I were mortal enemies. His drinking problem and my rebellious attitude never were a good mesh. The day that Dennis coated Foxworth's caddy I was taking my discharge physical. When I returned to the jet shop, Foxworth called me into the office and accussed me of painting his car. I told him to believe whatever he wanted to believe and that if anyone deserved to have his car painted, it was him. That really got him stirred up. But because I had a solid alibi he didn't know what to do. I really had no idea who did it. Later that day Dennis told me what he had done. I am surprised he admitted it to anyone else. I was okay with Foxworth blaming me.
