I was a flight student under retired Capt. Finn Wilster, RVAH-9, when I was learning to fly gliders in the late '80s. Pretty much the total opposite end of the spectrum from a Viggie. He had a huge impact on me, not only as an aviator, but also as a person. I just recently learned of his passing, and thought that this would be the perfect place to tell some "Finn stories ".
I am researching the IOIC system associated with the RA-5C. I am specifically looking at the Mediterranean deployments of the SARATOGA/RVAH-9 and AMERICA/RVAH-5 in 1967 (Six-Day War) and the JF KENNEDY/RVAH-11 and INDEPENDENCE/RVAH-14 in 1973 (Yom Kippur War). I would like to talk to any intelligence officers or PH/PTs that made those deployments about the IOIC system. Sea stories welcomed!
Thanks Terrill, was on here for a long time but when I retired from Robins Air Force Base we moved to North Ga and we had to change our internet service to another provider and got shifted out. I was with Heavy 6 from the beginning of 73 in Albany Ga till Nov of 75 while we were in the Philippines when they flew back from Clark AFB. I was a ADJ/plane captain the whole time, I even flew in the back seat over Key West in the Vigi. Wished I would have stayed and retired but I did go back to working on planes because I retired as a C-17 aircraft mechanic! Glad to be back...
Thank you for welcoming me in. I am an Italian Naval Aviation Historian and I have a great interest in RVAH Squadrons. I have written several books but especially one of them contains great photo coverage of RVAH-14 while assigned to CVW-1. The book's title is : NAVA 3 - FIRST AND FOREMOST - An illustrated History of CARRIER AIR WING ONE - Part Two 1957-1973.
The book is off of print now but I have sereveral spare copies left for bargain sale. If you are interested, please contact me at email@example.com
