Terry, It's been a long time. I joined RVAH-11, on the Indy, late summer. 2 days later, Chief Ham sent me mess-cooking for two months. We went to Vietnam, on the Connie, '71-'72, and back to the Med on the JFK in '73. In February '74, I went to B school enroute to VT-23 at Kingsville. During check-in, the leading Chief was Ham .

I want to tell you that you taught me a lot about the aircraft.  It helped me for 27years.

Take Care, Jim Johnson

Hi Terry, I'm Gary Lutz, I was in the Navy, Jun 1968 to April 1970. I spent a year in GTMO Bay, Cuba and then got orders for RVAH-11, July 1969. The Squadron was still on a West Pac aboard the Kitty Hawk. I stayed in Albany and was assigned to the RVAH-3 Squadron until the Checkertails returned home. I was an E-3 Airdale (AMS), when you guys came home the first thing I remember was the Commanders aircraft, on landing, the nose gear folded under the plane. If your the same Terry Wickline, of Helena, MT., that drove a 57 chevy, then I know you. You took me to the drag strip a couple of times and one time you even ran your 57 chevy in a drag race. I wasn't a very bright mechanic, but you taught me some things about the aircraft. I remember getting 6 new A5's and in MARCH of 1970 going out for a 2 week qual period on the USS Independance from Norfolk to Mayport and back, the Squadron was getting ready for a Med Cruise. In April 1970 I got a choice get out or extend for the cruise, since I didn't get the test scores back for 3rd class, I got out. I was home 3 weeks and got my promotion to 3rd class, I missed the Med Cruise, but I joined the PA Air National Guard and spent 21 years with them In the sheet metal shop, it was great.
