Ralph said early to me. Said John I'm gonna teach you how to  fight off these so called  bad asses. Be ready-could come anytime and it sure did. Seemed like everyday Ralph comes looking for Oliver cause he pissed him off. I likely did. HEE HEE  .Once I thought I had him pinned. That didn't last long. He was a potato with legs and arms. He was a career 2nd class. We were friends off base. He taught me that a senior  2nd class was better than any 1st class rank. Money wasn't  that different anyway. I kept to that and he  was RIGHT! I had 1st but medically discharged before I got it.

Hi Steve,

1974 cruise   was  difficult for me. My RECON hated me. You'd think  they all fought the Viet Nam  hand to hand combat. I had my share of fist fights. I was the new guy with a higher  from school rank. I made it. Just a small town KY  boy away for the 1st time. Getting slammed with Mess Deck MAA  force TAD woke me up Quick. Those snipes wanted to bust me in rank. Always on my arse. I just didn't agree with their harsh ways. I kinda ran the forward mess decks for  a few months. My crew liked me. The shyt heads hated it. Thank God  I was relieved. Not that was much better working around Gage and Oxley and others on the crew. Seemed like someone was always giving me a hard time 1st cruise. I grew up. I got tired of fighting in that elevator void leading to elevator #2. Seemed like daily. Wrestling old fat Ralph was kinda fun. All in fun. We never hurt each other. Just a BIG SHOW. No one I knew  dared to take on ole Fat Ralph Semi. Win or Lose I faced  him. All in fun. We both benefited. He always won and I took him on where other's  didn't dare. Chief just said leave Ralph alone and go to work. HA! HA!

Hello  friend Steve!

wow it's been a long time. You been back to the Keys? I was twice in late 80's with  A-4  training commands. Samo samo. Hear it's super changed  over the past 10 years. So much I don't dare return. I'll never forget my experiences as a Vigi sailor. Hope all is well with you.

Hi ya Steve,

Old John Oliver AT-2 here. some called me OLLIE. Just thought I'd say hello. You might remember me as being Ralph Semi's   wrestling partner. Anytime anywhere. He was like wrestling a fat potato. I remember you-blond hair and glasses. photo recon  line maintenance as I recall. 1975 cruise was easier  than the earlier Forrestal.  My IMA  gear seldom broke cause we seldom flew that cruise. 1975 I worked the IR  and DDS benches. A lot of cards and RISK game playing that  cruise.
