I was assigned to RVAH-6 from Sep 1969 through July 1970. I worked in the Operations Division for Cdr Dean initially and then for Cdr Ream on the 70-71 Westpac cruise aboard the Kitty Hawk. Got out of the Navy and returned to Minnesota on a Yamaha 650XS I bought through the BX. I don't remember exactly how many motorcycles we brought back on the ship but I believe it was around 750 of them. I haven't run into too many shipmates over the years but I did find out some are no longer with us. That would include Cdr William Belay, LT James Vicente, LCdr Barry Gastrock, and LCdr Gordon Wileen. LT George Hurlburt got out of the Navy and was working as a civilian the simulator field at Patuxtent River if I got my facts right. YN2 Patrick Sands of the Admin Division is retired and living in DePere, WI. Amn Scott Weaver was in the squadron a short time and then went off to OCS. He was an engineer but didn't much care for the kind of engineering he had to do. So he went to Dental School, courtesy of the Navy, and made his Navy career as a Dentist. Or was this space supposed to be about me?
