"Sam: Great to see you posted on the website! You and I have fond memories of 149299. I flew more that half of my Vigi hours in that bird. It was always up and had full systems. Must have been due to your plane captain skills. Mike Madden"

Got to H-9 in the spring of 73, just out of AMH "A" school just as the squadron was coming home from the Forrestal cruise. Was assigned to the line crew (Division Officer was LTjg Tim Baker) and became a plane captain. Was a proud kid the day the Crud Crew painted my name on 149299 but never got a photo of it. Did the 74-75 med cruise on Indy (half in Rota, half on the boat det). We then went to Sara for a few weeks but then to Nimitz as she was brand new. Made her sea trials, shakedowns, OREs, 75 North Atlantic cruise and then back to the Med in summer of 76. Eventually moved into the airframes shop and was the night shift A/F cat checker. Got out in August of 76 as an AMH-2. After college I took a commission in the reserves as an Intel officer. Recce time was the best years of our lives! I'd do it all over again tomorrow.

Sam: Great to hear from you and to hear that your son followed in Dad's foot steps in the Navy, and especially Naval Aviation. I will stay in touch and hope to see you, and meet your family, soon. R/ Tim
