If you thought that my ejection was a show from your perspective, you should have seen it from mine. I've still never forgiven the Ops Officer from H-1 - Meifert, I think - who (without authorization) took over the tower that day from the tower operators. I had declared an emergency and stated my intent to land on 04 b/c of the crosswind, but he went up to the tower, pulled rank on the tower crew, and ordered me to land on RWY 22. I argued with him about the wisdom of that decision, but he would not allow me to land on RWY 04. After a hook skip over the gear, the outcome was fairly predictable. That was one crazy ride in the chute that day - dragged me all the way across the tarmac by the crosswinds - fortunately with my seat pan in tact, and face up. All things considered, people like Meifert justified my decision to separate. Up to that point, I was starting to feel some regret.
