It has been reported that former Savage Sons NFO/RAN, George Geer, passed away in Pensacola yesterday. George was with Heavy 5 on the last cruise on the Ranger (not sure when he reported aboard). I will attempt to keep everyone updated on services and such as the info becomes available.

If you had RSVP'd the original Reunion event listing please do it again on the new event listing. (RVAH-5 Reunion Event)

Tried to update original but for whatever reason the software wouldn't let me so I replaced it with a new one.

Joseph,

I am not sure how many PH's are in this Group, but all the Heavy-5 photographers took their "A" (photography) and "C" (electronics) schools in Building 1500 at NAS Pensacola.  It is no longer the "Naval School of Photography", but since it is now the headquarters for the NAS, their must be some history within for those interested.

Here is an interesting link about the building.

Here is an assignment picture I took and processed while going to "A" in 1970.

Greetings to all Savage Son’s, Family and Friends….

This is my second monthly update to the RVAH-5 Reunion being planned for Sept 30, 2017.  I plan on sending monthly updates at the end of each month right up till reunion time.   Also, as we get farther along with this effort other details such as a daily schedule of events will be published.

This auspicious occasion picked up three (3) additional attendees for a new total of twenty four (24), Savage Son’s who indicated they would make the gathering.  I’m thinking twenty four is not bad but I’m also thinking we will be picking up more as the word spreads.  Need your help to spread the word…..

Pensacola will be the reunion location.  P’Cola had more recommendations so we will go with this and I will start finalizing events details.   I have made several calls to various offices at NAS Pensacola regarding hosting our reunion events.  I’ve also reached out to the RA5C aircraft manufacture of record to see if they would like to participate and help sponsor.

Here are a few examples of events I’m working to get finalized / scheduled:

Friday – initial arrival & check in during lunch time.  After lunch visit the Naval Education and Training Center to see the latest and greatest training labs now being used to train the various aviation rates.  I think it would be very interesting to see and compare the classes / labs from my days in Millington (BE&E, AV-A and AVI-B schools) to what is being utilized today.  Later on in the evening gather at a local watering hole for libations of your choice and catch up with old friends.

Saturday – check in if not done on Friday, meet at the Naval Air Museum and play tourist.  Then at a specific time in the afternoon all will gather for a catered dinner, pic’s and various awards/presentations.

Sunday – meet at local dining establishment for a brunch for any last minute conversations, last photo op, one last chance to say “Hail and Farewell”.

Towards the end of Jan 2017 I will be heading to south Florida to play snowbird.  I plan on stopping in P’Cola for a few days to meet & talk with the various location offices (on and off base) involved to discuss and finalize these proposed plans.    I will provide the details of these meetings in the Jan 2017 update.  If anyone has additional suggestions for events please send them to me.  Any and all suggestions are welcome……

I will post monthly updates to the various FB websites for Heavy Squadrons as well as send them to you individually via the email you provided me.  If you did not receive this update via your email I do not have your email on the “official spreadsheet”.

Please send any and all comments, suggestions and recommendations which will help make this reunion a success……

A wish of a safe & prosperous New Year to all Savage Sons, Family & Friends……

was the DK at Truman Annex starting in June or July of 1976.  Just got decommissioned in H13 after coming back from '75-'76 Med cruise.  Honestly didn't get to know many guys since we never cruised together.  If you had money business at the finance office then you might remember me.
