Still making pictures... just not as high as we did back in the day.

Worked my way through College using a camera at the Daytona Beach News Journal. I had worked at a photo studio before that and when I graduated with a degree in Education I shot stuff free lance for years. After 30 plus years in school administration I retired and have gone back to the Lens and Camera. Now my son is shooting and I still meet up with my best friend ( Alain Boniec) from Navy days to go shooting together. No more belly bands or belly band screws falling out to chase.  That is a good thing !  Loved my days in IOIC processing etc but especially operating the color processing machines which is what got me the job at the News Journal in the color department.

Is this the Sam Zadjura that was in RVAH-12, WestPac, during 1970? If so, this IS a small world indeed! If this IS you, please let me know. Not often you meet a sailor that was on the same boat at the same time, and in the same unit!

Fortunately my photomate career bloomed after I left RVAH13 in the middle of my second WestPac and went to B-School and then to run the Lab at ComNavMarianas Guam. I had a PH3 named "Taco Landavazzo". During that tour I covered the "turning over" of ChiChi Jima to Japan. I also got to do a compendium of stills and movies of many of the islands in the Pacific riding on a tender named the Grasp or something like that. Then finished up at the Lab at ComCruDesLant in Newport. An interesting six year career but I just lost my motivation and got out.

Thanks for the note. It dragged me out of the "bla's". I was wondering what happened to PH Chief KC Putt. I last saw him running the bar accross from the Jai alai in Casselberry, he was my most memorable boss. My last chief was PHC Poole as I remember. I found another Photomate, Paul Richards up in Boston. Its sad to think of the Photographer Rate dying. I have had a number of Naval Officers see my rating badge in my memory box on the wall and not recognize it. When was it done away with?

There were no other Photographers when I served VAH-6 (1958-60) at Whidbey Island, so they TAD me to NAS Photo Lab. Then when we went on USS Ranger CVA-61's first Westpac (1959) Cruise, I was then TAD to the Photo Lab.
Currently on Board of Directors trying to Save Ranger in Portland, OR. Anyone wanting to send money to save this ship www.ussranger.org !

Nice to see the welcome. I was in Sanford in '63 thru 66 including 1 1/2 cruises as I left to go to B School. Got out and went to US Customs and retired after 31 yrs Govt service.
