Just got off the phone with two old Shipmates, RVAH 9 class of 1968-69, Nick Laverack and Jim Dence...both doing well in full retirement.  We rehashed old memories of our glory days...both enjoying good health and many grand/great grand kids...God bless and your Friendships are cherished and returned.  Bear Hastings, AKCS/CWO4/LT SC

I believe I remember Dinsmore and Pettit. After we got home from Nam in 66 they shared an apartment in Orlando. Next door to them was a pretty girl they were competing to get her attention. They both had their own cars and used to race home right after work to visit this lady. One day, one of them (can't remember which one) had a flat tire on 17&92. The other one went right past without bothering to help. Dinsmore, my nickname was Killer Miller, an AT that was on the Sara and Ranger with all you photo mates. I believe your 1st class was Fitzgerald. My chief was WAC Wigg.

Dinsmore, I was in Heavy 9 from Sept.,63 to Dec., 66. We had A3's until early 64 when we converted to Vigies. I am pretty sure I remember you, I know I remember the name. I looked you up in my Ranger 65/66 cruise book and one picture I thought might be you showed you scrubbing down the horizontal stabilizer of one of our birds. Is it you?

Remembering Master Chief Ron O'Neal...RVAH 9 1968 with the 1968 MED and part of the WESTPAC cruise..he was a mentor and encouraged me to shoot for the Officer program...we still remain in NAVYBEAR@comcast.net contact with his lovely wife, Dee Dee residing in Florida. Best days in my Navy career...I still connect with AKC Gene Holland ... We had a great Maintenance Officer, CDR JOE MCINVALE....these were my heroes who I modeled myself after in my 30 year career.

Sonny got out in early 66 and joined the reserves while in college to take hop to see his girl friend. He didn't attend meetings after the hop and SP showed up at his door. They gave him a choice and long story short, he ended up a LCOM, flying helos. I took his idea and reenlisted with my oldest, he first, when he raised his hand for the Marine Corps on his 18th birthday, and I did another 12 years retiring at age 60.

We, Sonny Pettit, Pat Obrien, Bob Vaughn and myself, arrived from photo school the last of 63 to VAH-9 to be ground floor of a State of the Art photo system. We were elated and proud to be chosen. The bomb was hung on the emblem, below the Owl and we tried to get it replaced with a camera. The bomb waved at me as I left in 66, and I never knew when it was removed. The Speedgraphic would have been a cool touch.
