Event Description

There are several of us that made "THE LAST SMOKE" that are trying to get a reunion up for any and all RVAH-1 Smoking Tigers.  We are wanting to meet back in Key West, Florida in September 2016.  We have just begun gathering contact information on those guys who made the last two cruises  with RVAH-1 and making plans on what to do and where to go.

Please if you made the last cruise with RVAH-1 or have contact information on any of the former Smoking Tigers please get in touch with me Michael "Rookie" Hampton at mhampton971@gmail.com so that we can an you or them to our contact list.  I am also listed on Facebook if you want to add me as a friend just send me a message.

As anyone who has ever lived in Key West knows tourist season is not the cheapest time to visit Key West, so several of the guys have been looking into places to stay and their costs.  We decided on September 28 to October 3 because it is not in the middle of tourist season and the lower costs for hotel rooms, plus who wants to visit Key West in the middle of July, it just to dang hot there then.

Let's all get together back in Key West to remember the past and see just how much time has changed us and Key West, from what I gather we wouldn't recognize each other or the place.

Before we get to far into the planning of this reunion in 2016 I want to personally thank Richie Husmann for doing a lot of the foot work on finding out prices of lodging and Ret. ATC James Summers for volunteering to be our base sponsor.

I will try and keep everyone apprised on what information I have about the planning of the event.  I ask for your help in getting as many of the gang notified as possible.  Feel free to e-mail me any suggestions or questions you might have to we can discuss them.

Words of wisdom from the "coordinator", Michael Hampton:

Yes Steve, a group of us from the Smoking Tigers, RVAH-1, are still planning a reunion back in Key West.  For right now the dates are set for Sept. 28th threw Oct. 3rd.   We are checking into Hotel prices, base access and things to do at the present time.

We are also attempting to find as many of the shipmates as we can from the last two cruises as we can, so posting it as an event might be of some help.  We are not limiting this get together in any way, anyone from the RVAH community are welcome to join us but we would really like to see the guys we served with from 1976 to 1979.

Heavy One was my first command.  I was there from 1968 to 1972 and had a ball.  I made the reunion in Jacksonville a few years ago and had a fine old time but no one from my era was present.  Will probably go if a few of us from that time are going.  Gus Villarini was there with me so that's a good start.

Everyone in Reccenet got an email. If you were never a "Smokin' Tiger"  please pass the word to anyone you know who was, there are more than a few who are "computer illiterate".
